The Pilates Method is a body conditioning system developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates, after whom it was named. It is designed to develop muscular strength, balance, flexibility, and movement efficiency while developing body awareness. It can be done as mat pilates using your body weight and optional small props or with specialized apparatuses including the reformer, Cadillac, spine corrector, Wunda chair, and barrel.
